Greg 1, Dad 0

Since we are getting toward the end of 2023 I thought I would go through some pictures from this year and put up a few posts. This picture is from an early morning fishing trip to Williamstown Lake in KY toward the end of September. The weather was very foggy as you can tell but the lake was very busy.

We started off the day a little later than we wanted, missing our sunrise boat launch by about a half hour. While at our traditional boat launch we were waiting out turn and a very nice person stopped by and told me about another boat ramp that no one uses since it doesn’t have a courtesy dock. The ranger can handle a little beaching so we left the busy marina and headed for the boat ramp. The ramp was empty as promised and we were in the water in no time.

We fished close to our launch point because of the fog and we were not having much luck. Greg was having a good time making fun of me for my “uncharacteristically” bad luck with lures in trees. This was typical of a lot of our trips during 2023 for some reason.

We were getting a little fed up with the constant snags, low visibility, and busy conditions so we decided to fish our way back toward the dock. Greg decided to try something completely different with a small lure and a color combo that looked like it was out of one of those 70’s black light posters. Sure enough he kept us from being skunked that day with a fish in the boat. Granted it was no monster but it meant that he beat me that day.

For me I enjoyed seeing him step away from what I have taught him and try something all on his own, and I was very happy it worked out for him. I could tell it meant a lot to him that he won fair and square using his own selection of lure, and using his own wits to know where to throw etc.

These are the days that typical dads like me live for .
